The cabinets are a compromise. They are too small to let those drivers 'breathe' properly. You have four options really, big floorstanding reflex boxes, acoustic column (not transmission line), the BLH of course and finally and possibly very effective, a quarter wave horn.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Is that a deconstructed woofer at the bottom, or a passive perhaps?

Chipboard is easy to denigrate, but it has a lower Q than MDF.

Both I'd say. Clearly the metal chassis has holes for magnet mounting, but presumably in this application used without as an ABR. An idea employed by many makers, KEF for instance.

Wow they look great, first class condition. I’d agree with Geoff, get them in a horn, they will sound fantastic.

    thats my plan,
i had a good 6 hour listening session yesterday and they really are lovely sounding drivers,as geoff and ali have pointed out they do need some bass lift, apart from that all is good.they are very musical and have an endearing quality to them that makes you want to keep on listening.
any concerns i had are gone and for now my ns1000's are in the bedroom,i never thought id say that!

Jamie, I have a nice pair of 10 inch Coral bass drivers which could work nicely with your Coral FR drivers to fill in the bottom end. Goes down to 28hz.
