    Default What's snoring ?

We have a 15th century, timber framed farmhouse which, because of the construction, has hollow walls and numerous small gaps for creatures to sneak into. This means that we have to keep a constant watch out for mice in the loft. A nuisance but not a real problem.

However, just the past couple of weeks we have heard a 'snoring' in a part of one wall in a bedroom. It is a proper 'snore', not a rustle or flutter or anything scrabbling around but a zzzzz, zzzzz etc. It is during the night and early morning, so I don't think it's a nocturnal creature but I don't really know.

What would be snoring loud enough to be heard ?

It'll probably be an insect of some sort. I've had similar sounds in my kitchen, never did pin down what was causing it.

We had a rat in the walls, but it was more shuffling than snoring. Hedgehogs can make funny noises, but never heard of one getting in a house wall, and they're nocturnal...

Whatever you do, don't watch Stranger Things! You'll never sleep again!

Are you sure it's not the lady next door using a 'personal device'?

...only if it's accompanied by moaning, then squealing

To be sure, check for damp patches on the walls.

I don't think it could be an insect as it is a proper snoring noise, like someone next door but we haven't got any neighbours.

I have seen Hedgehogs on the TV, snoring but it's upstairs and I doubt they can get up the wall.

If it's a real bother Dave, it might be an idea to consult a pest control company. After all, there may be damage being caused or some sort of infestation that could worsen.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
