I have finally given in to buy a pair that have been sat in a local shop since early this year the price is fair and can sell on if need be - the shop is never open but have got them down to a price less than £50 - I hear they are amplifier dependent so what would be the best amplifier to match them with the condition is great I don't really need them but i just want to try them as i liked my Swordsman i owned last year

I can't offer any comparison but I had a pair a few years ago and they sounded very nice with my old NAD 3020.

I have Ruark Templar I and they sound great with any amp I've tried, currently Audio Analogue Puccini SE.

Ah, glad to hear that as I always wanted to pair some Templar 1’s with my Puccini SE as I reckoned it would be a great match

A mainly digital setup with a musical amplifier and endearing 1970's speakers. A CD player that hardly ever gets used and a turntable that is good enough to remind my how enjoyable my old vinyl is. Some cables and things.

    Hi Tony,

Do you have the SE with remote, and do you have a remote?

If you need one I can copy mine to a SeKi slim for you, remotes seem rare.

Don’t have Puccini anymore Gary, I traded it in for an Icon Audio amp. Was a great little amp (pre-remote SE model).

I don't know the mk1 do they have the translucent polypropylene drivers like other mk1 Ruarks eg.the Crusader?

I can tell you from experience with the mk2 that they scale up very well with quality source and amplification and deserve the best you have in that list. I certainly wouldn't pair them with an old Nad or similar as they deserve much better. Audio Analogue is certainly more like it, or musical fidelity A3/308/5 etc. I imagine a class A like the Sugden would also sound nice, or one of the many class A Chinese clones now proliferating on eBay.

    Still got mine .

They're no Tannoys, but are fun and don't sound a bit lost like many smaller speakers. I'm driving mine with my TPA3116 mini amp and it's a great combo. You should try one, you'd be shocked at how good it is (the TPA3116 that is), it'll beat the PMA-350SE for sound quality!
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

I bought a TPA3116 on your recommendation, haven't tried it yet, been trying to get the best SQ out of the Topping D30 and CCA. 15v Linear supply to Topping and 5v Linear supply to CCA and optimising software. The results are surprising that despite the relative cost of these components they make music in a beautiful way.
