I suffered an amazing amount of pain getting this photograph due to severe osteoarthritis in my left knee but I love this place so much. On beautiful sunny days this location has an almost spiritual connection for me as does most of the coastline of eastern England. When I have less pain it is always such a strange, almost melancholy experience being in places such as this with the cameras.

Superb work Shaun. The colour speaks volumes here, such a vibrant green. If it wasn't so colourful it would look almost desolate, which in itself would be stunning too.

The melancholy feel certainly does come across in the photo. I think you have conveyed what you think about the place nicely.

Do you read any MR James? It's not Lincolnshire based but still east coast and very bleak at times. Oh whistle and I'll come to you my lad especially. You have to watch the BBC drama based on it with Michael Hordern, it's haunting.

Thank you for your comments guys I think you get the feeling of the place very nicely. It is way out on a limb feeling very lonely and isolated but less than three miles away is Cleethorpes, a big, bustling vibrancy of noise and commercialism. The marsh itself is covered in little crisscross tracks largely made by animals but is such a soul stirring place. I did a version of this in black and white as well as that is my preferred way of imaging but in this case it just didn't work.

Once again, thank you for your comments.

No Lawrence I've not read anything by that author. I shall seek it out however.

Melancholy is such a damn fine word for describing places such as this.

Ian, I 'process' these images to appear super saturated in colour and ultra high res. I always guess that if I am using colour then make it bloody colourful. I love the overall 'impressionist' quality that it gives to my photo's. I spent so many decades producing 'purist' photographs that had to obey certain rules. Sod it ! Not anymore.

    Default Humber Estuary

Humber Estuary ridges in the mud by Shaun Haselden, on Flickr

Here's one I took the same day but on the very edge of the marsh where it joins the estuary. Clearly visible is the old military fort known as Haile Sand Fort. Love the old yachts abandoned and waiting for the next tide. Reminds me of the song 'Yacht Dance' by XTC.
