I had a listen to these at Westlower Towers today. Most impressed with the SQ and the room filling sound. For the price/quality it beats the pants of Adam's custom RFC Tannoys which cost a wee bit more.
If a set comes up on my ebay alert I may grab it for the kitchen as well.
Is there anything else that is similar that is sold these days?

No faff, fine for non-critical listening, expandable into other rooms when you want. I wouldn't bother looking elsewhere.
The Play3 is now discontinued, so the choice is either a Play1, a One (which is the same as a Play1 but has Alexa voice control built in) or a Play5. For most kitchens, a one is big enough.
