Yep, so close. The penalty miss was very disappointing, but they did look like a good team and hopefully will continue to get better.

Watched it with my 10 yr old daughter - who already loves playing football - obviously we were disappointed the Lionesses lost, but great role-models for the younger generation. Well done ladies, you did England proud.

I think the commentators have just summed up that there is a greater sense of fair play, far less fouls, a clean game and a real tactical match. Loving it and Japan are now looking the better side.

When I get into it, its finally arrived. Viewing figures are up significantly around the world and there is super skill on display.

If you want to see a textbook 4-4-2 the work rate and skill are laudable.

My general thoughts is that its a purer game of football because its less cynical than the mens game. Its not a gender issue and nobody can patronise them as these women are highly skilled footballers.

edit Japan were robbed...its a funny old game
I don't object to women playing football and I don't object to the BBC showing it, especially as it is only on instead of whatever unwatchable shit they usually show. The problem I have is that it gives certain types the chance to demonstrate how politically correct they are.

I watched last night's game as an online stream from an American sports network, the presenter and panel were 4 women. They were surprisingly neutral and unbiased, and more refreshingly had no interest in using it as a gender politics rally.

This is quite interesting; apparently, last night's match had the highest viewing figures on TV this year.

Yes I feared that people would think Im being PC and sucking up to that. I think its moved past that though and we can now question why anyone thought its not something women should be doing.

Its not even mentioning its an inspiration for young girls and boys. If we are going to mention constructed phrases like "Girl power" its far better to see women playing sport than some manufactured pop group

Its like we have become a better society when we dont pander to stereotypical roles...my tea on the table sort of thing. Any men that think the little lady should be at home have got serious issues

There are women that are stronger than many men and Im up for a bit of domination
I didn't actually have you in mind I was referring to some comments I read elsewhere saying how much better it was than the man's game because of blah blah. The same people who are constantly telling us what an awful country this is and that they'd rather live somewhere else. Despite this country giving them everything they have, which seems to be quite a lot in some cases.

It's my view that the obsessive levels of political correctness with its constant emphasis on gender, 'race' and nationality actually reinforces the idea that these things matter which seems to be the opposite result to the intention, which I assume is to have everyone treated as equal.
