Quad uses a Sabre32 Reference ES9018K2M chip. Amp is about same price range. About 650 or 750 with the mahogany.
Have to say the amp has improved across board with use

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Stock pic as it seems impossible to take a decent pic at home of this amp with its black fascia.

Ah well, there's still DACs and cables and equipment supports and mains doodads to swap.

I just can't imagine a better sounding amp for my system and my tastes.

    Marantz HD-AMP1.
    Class D, 35wpc (70wpc into 4 ohms).
    Sorted.

It's so good, I've now bought 2 of them, one for my 2nd system as well.
Not a lot of watts for class d, class d watts are usually cheap. Maybe not good sounding watts though...

Arch box swapper finds his 'Final' amp - I've told the Guardian.
Will make a change from interminable exit headlines.

    Interesting choice, Jerry.

It's got the best "palpable presence" I've ever heard, Josie - and that makes the music come alive for me.

Yeah course I do. But you have slagged it off multiple times in the past.
