I’ve been very lucky to recently acquire montesquieu’s 912 preamp and so am selling my 868.
This is the PL model with the built-in MM/MC phono stage. Described as having basically the same line stage as the 912 and the same phono circuits as used in the 88PB, I found this a huge step up from the 864 and sounds truly lovely.
The unit itself is approximately 3 years old and is in excellent condition throughout. I took it to EAR in St Neots for a service in April so any buyer can feel confident that everything works to spec. Needless to say, no issues were found. It uses 4xPCC88 valves and a set of EAR-branded valves are fitted. I think I read that EAR suggest a life of approx. 5,000 hours, but they are cheapish and easy to replace. I’ve used Telefunkens in this to good effect, but valve choice is obviously pretty subjective. The unit comes with all the packing (including a new outer box), a user manual and the (very cheap-looking) remote for volume.
I’m based in Kenilworth (just south of Coventry) so pretty central, but am also happy to travel about an hour’s drive to assist with collection if that helps anyone. I will consider shipping too as all the packing is here and it’s double boxed (but shipping with insurance cover will likely be expensive!). Happy to work something out with a buyer though.
These retail at £5,400. I’m selling for £3,200. No offers please - these don’t come up for sale that often, especially not in this condition. You may have seen this offered on eBay for considerably more.
