Loose leaf fan here, but my everyday teabag of choice is the mighty Yorkshire Tea. I also like Matcha tea, which is absolutely loaded with antioxidants, over 100x more than regular steeped tea leaves.

I have some loose leaf Darjeeling, and Ceylon, on the way from Ahmad https://www.ahmadtea.com/uk/

I don't really like using infuser pots, prefer to use one of these dunked into a cup:

Mana Acoustics Racks / Bright Star IsoNodes Decoupling >> Allo DigiOne Player >> Pedja Rogic's Audial Model S DAC + Pioneer PL-71 turntable / Vista Audio phono-1 mk II / Denon PCL-5 headshell / Reson Reca >> LFD DLS >> LFD PA2M (SE) >> Royd RR3s.

Happy Shopper tea is pretty good or used to be. Used to drink gallons of that as a student. Learnt to like it black and unsweetened as could not afford milk and sugar in those days. Then went on to Earl Grey, loose leaf ofc.

Nowdays I'm on the Roobios green tea from South Africa. No caffeine in it. Never been up for all this poncing around with tea. Just put the tea bag in the cup and pour hot water on it FFS. Not rocket science. Prefer a mug to a cup as you get more.

Mrs. Pony puts the tea bag and the milk in the cup before putting hot water on it. Someone have a word with her please.

My mate's wife used to have her tea so weak it wasn't worth the effort, and no matter how I tried I couldn't make it weak enough. One day I decided balls to this, why waste a bag on her - she can have a dip of mine when I'm done with it. I handed her the brew, and she took one sip and said "You've used a secondhand tea bag". How could she tell? If it hadn't been 30 years ago I would have suspected a hidden camera.

Wow... Money must've *really* been tight, mate! Did you smoke back then, or drink (alcohol)?

Nowdays I'm on the Roobios green tea from South Africa. No caffeine in it. Never been up for all this poncing around with tea. Just put the tea bag in the cup and pour hot water on it FFS. Not rocket science. Prefer a mug to a cup as you get more.
Can't be doing with caffeine-free tea or coffee, as for me it tastes crap. And as I only drink one large cup of coffee a day, and occasionally a cup of tea in the afternoon, caffeine intake levels aren't an issue. You must drink pints of the stuff, to have to worry about caffeine....

As for "poncing around" with tea, it's the same as anything else that benefits being done right, and appreciated by those who are discerning enough!

Would you drink a nice red wine out of a tumbler, totally stone cold and without it having been allowed to 'breathe'? Well, if so, quite simply it'll not taste as good as it would served inside a proper (large) wine glass, at the right temperature, and after having been allowed to 'breathe' and/or be aerated.

Well, the same principles apply with tea... If you heat the pot (and the cup/mug you're going to be drinking from) first, before pouring (just off) boiling water onto the tea, use good quality teabags, or better still quality loose-leaf tea, and allow it to infuse/brew in the hot water for the optimal amount of time (around 3 mins), then strain if necessary, and pour into your mug or cup, and add milk and/or sugar if required, the result/taste will be far better than if you haven't made that effort...

And for me, if something is worth doing, it's worth doing right!

As an American I find this all very educational. I drink gallons of tea! Iced tea. My entire life, I can not recall ever looking in my mother’s fridge and there not being a pitcher of iced tea, sweetened, waiting inside. Most refreshing on a hot day, and good with nearly every meal.

Oh we do drink hot tea in the cup, mostly from tea bags, I do enjoy it in the Winter months on a cold day. Mom has always used Lipton tea, and it is a good quality tea, compared to whatever else they sell at the store.

Coffee is a morning thing, it’s more of an addiction than a beverage. I can’t get my eyes open until I’ve had that first cup of rich coffee. But that’s it, I don’t want coffee after that, it’s all for the jolt of caffeine.

After that, chances are I’m drinking iced tea. It’s a Southern thing, everyone drinks it, if you visit someone in the South, be prepared to be offered an iced tea, sweetened.

Nice one, Russell, I also like iced tea, but don't have it very often. Darjeeling with fresh mint and lemon is fantastic on a hot day! We use good quality loose-leaf tea, fresh mint from the garden and Sicilian lemons. If you haven't tried it, you should!

Totally agree with your drinking of strong coffee in the morning - I'm exactly the same! I need a caffeine hit, first thing, simply to 'kickstart the engine'... No need for it later.
