    Deep Purple Made in Japan and King Crimson USA, the musicianship is just outstanding on USA - not everyone's cup of coffee but for me, both are essential albums
    showing just how exciting live concerts could be, in the 1970's

    Nice one, Alan. Sadly, I only own one of the albums mentioned so far...

    Hard to decide what is an "essential" album, so many to chose from, and I guess the definition of "essential" needs to transcend niches and personal tastes. The one for me that would immediately spring to mind, as I have listened to it since a small kid as one of my Mum's favourites -
