I don't understand why folks find it hard to build their own house.

You just keep piling bricks till you have the required height, then stick a roof on. Job done. How hard is that?

I just had a go at Tapatalk. After seeing a lot of Google entries (which one for chrissakes?) I picked one and I may have signed up - not certain, but I provided a username, email address and password to something/someone, and told them I wasn't a robot. Then what? Tried various things, ended up on a page which seemed to be selling iPhones. Not sure if it thinks I want to send pics to a forum, or whether I'm a forum owner.

Everything is simple or at least learnable if you understand the basics. Otherwise it's tough titty. I started out in a good mood, now the lounge window is in danger of receiving a laptop-shaped hole

Maybe I'll look out for a "how to do specific tasks on your computer" course in the autumn if I find myself with some spare time and money.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.

    T'other system:

    A/V:
LG 55" OLED, Panasonic Blu Ray, Sony a/v amp, MA Radius speakers, REL Storm sub

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

It's a phone app AfAIK so Google Play store app or Apple equivalent is where you should search.

Incidentally I was inclined to think the OP was treated a little harshly but had a rather stressful attempt to purchase something on another forum which has led me to agree with the point Marco made about courtesy and taking the time to describe items well. There was little attempt to describe it but as the seller had 1000+ posts thought it was ok. Waited a day for an answer to a reasonable question then sent the money to secure and said in the highly unlikely event I've misunderstood the (very short) description then please send it back. Waited 3 days and chased then got a message back saying send your address, no returns. At this point I asked for a photo and where it had been purchased given it was sealed box and I didn't know what condition the item could be in. Then I got back, fed up with your questions give me your paypal for refund. So I did. A day later get message send request for funds. Explained this only worked for goods and services and had fees. Then get a refund marked "timewaster". Yeah right.

The OP in question here could've been anyone, Lawrence, as it had been my intention for a while to highlight the requirement for posting not only decent pictures with ads, but decent ads, all round, which are both well-written and contain all the required information! Simon's hissy fit, however, and fantasy recollection of events, regarding the "roasting" he'd received previously, simply made that choice easier

Because Simon aside, as you've just highlighted and sadly found to your cost, you can bet your boots that the lazy wanker of a seller, who simply can't be bothered to construct a decent advert [and who's evasive, unhelpful and just wants paid with the minimum of effort], will be the same lazy wanker who turns out to be a nightmare to deal with, in the event of any transaction........

Some folk simply don't get it... AoS isn't, nor ever will be, a 'catch all' forum, where anyone gets in and behaves how they like, and where there is little control imposed upon what is acceptable and what isn't. We're fussy about who we want here, so you have 'get' what AoS is about, prove yourself a little as a person, and try and fit in with the community we've created, based on those fundamental principles.

Therefore, the driving force behind us making an example of this advert, was to weed out the lazy wankers, the take-take takers of this world, and maximise the quality of both the ads posted here and the people who've constructed them. We want give-give givers here instead, who embrace the concept of a structured online community, where the onus is on helping each other, not just ourselves.

It's no coincidence therefore, that I receive PMs regularly from people, both members of the trade and private individuals, telling me what a breath of fresh air our classifieds sections are, and that there is far less time-wasters and idiots there, acting as both buyers and sellers, compared with that on some other forums, and although it requires more effort to place ads on AoS, the rewards are worth it!

Therefore mate, *that* is why we do what we do, and our classifieds section is one of the busiest and most vibrant of any of the online audio forums

    Marco.

Cheers, Dennis, and as you know I always enjoy reading your contributions.

AoS is largely a mirror image of my version of now society should be, and indeed what I'm used to experiencing and enjoy in my daily life [old-fashioned values and the company of happy, considerate and friendly people], which is why I seek the same here, and along with the help of others, have created a community around it.

I simply refuse to entertain or showcase the worst traits of modern living, as most of it is alien to me, or allow the eternal malcontents and 'fun sponges' to suck the joy out of life. There's plenty of time to be depressed or angry when you're dead!

Therefore, whoever wants to join us on that basis, isn't all out for themselves, embraces our ethos and sees this place as a haven from the rat race, is most welcome, and indeed should find the experience rewarding. The rest, I simply couldn't give two hoots about

    Marco.

It is hard in an ever changing society to keep the best of the past whilst accepting the new, after evaluating it for merit of course, and vitally, to be able to know the difference.

I am a member of one other audio site, which has now become a general 'friendship and discussion' site for which we pay a 'nominal' sum to support. (It was the AVI site, and run by an AVI employee/shareholder).

Some bullying went on from a classical middle class public school originating member, who now it has changed hands, has no authority, but his deeply embedded traits are still to be seen in his posts, and which IMO are bigoted, biased, and prejudiced.

Apparently, everything he believes is true, and his views are the only right ones, all others being conspiracies, usually of the left.

Some people are so embedded in a culture, that they cannot see beyond their inherent biases, (and I think we all internalise some in our formative years), but we have to if we seek maturity, learn to see past them and deal with them by accepting that there is validity to the views of others, and failings in our own..

This is what I have written there:

"I do not, unlike the well documented tendency of PhD studiers look for, and see, only the information which supports my suppositions and biases and conjectures.

We have to see beyond what may give us comfort by reinforcing our sense of identity, and if we do not, we become fixed and unresponsive to changes in external reality. "

I’d still like to know the price! Perhaps it’s a little cheaper now
