I'm Simon.
I only had enough pocket money to buy my first LP in 1973. It was a toss up between Raw Power and Space Oddity. Bowie won. I didn't get Aladdin Sane coz my friend had that. No point in getting duplicate records when you can borrow them
I thought Bowie was pretty essential all the way through to Heroes. I remember being taken aback by Low especially by Side2 - who was expecting that? My favourite is probably Ziggy mainly due to Mick Ronson's guitar - No one else sounds like him.
Simon.
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

I think I am nearing audio nirvana, but don’t tell anyone.
I think Mick Ronson, his arrangements and guitar played an essential part in Bowie's sound - all of my favourites are the ones he was a part of, and that can't be a coincidence.
I saw a documentary film last year called "Beside Bowie - the Mick Ronson Story", which I found quite moving - a great talent and a proper down-to-earth and warm human being. Recommended viewing

Bowie was a seminal artist. I didnt buzz on every track he released but there is more than enough to show a true genius
Its almost too easy to say you like him. Again I can dip in to the greatest hits or play an album. Ive got the live in 72 and a good few of his albums.
I dint buy into the whole Ziggy thing but I took the album as a great piece of work. Im afraid glam fashion was the pair of cords my mother could afford to buy me. I was young in his early years so you could say I matured to love it and look back at the discography.
He is in another league from Roxy music. A league reserved for the very best

I'm Graham.
My mum loved Bowie , (she had the usual best of on cassette!)so I was always listening to him, still love it. I was only listening to ziggy lp this evening. It is a nothing special re-issue but with the JBLs at 11, the music just reaches out and grabs you. Rock and Roll Suicide is a stunning finale to a great album (complete with echoes of The Bewley Brothers one of my faves from Hunky Dory). What a run of output to Scary Monsters, Ashes to Ashes is as fresh and avant garde today.
After that, the albums are rather patchy, but I really like Reality, its got some great up tempo rhythms, Pablo Picasso is right up there in his canon.
And he kept the surprises coming, The Next Day is moody and great in places. Though i keep thinking it would have made a truly stunning single lp rather than the double it was released as. I haven't bought Black Star, I think it was all the forgiveable hype that made me hesitate.
A truly unique and authentic talent.
I find 'Black Star' to be a difficult listen, very dark, and makes me think about his passing, and by extension my own mortality. I prefer music which distracts me from the inevitable. The polar opposite of 'Hunky Dory' imo, with its optimism, light and hope for the future. This probably doesn't make much sense, it's just how they make me feel.
Guilty pleasure - One of my favourite Bowie songs is 'Absolute Beginners', which similarly lifts my spirits. Shite film though.

I like 'black star' but yes.. It's dark and not a regular play.
I can't bring myself to buy a vinyl copy at the crazy prices. I'd rather buy more vinyl.
