Well, I never saw her as a joke figure - quite the opposite. Have you ever sat and listened to her talk no-nonsense politics, or about anything else she's passionate about, in terms of 'righting the world's wrongs'?

When she does, I find myself overwhelmingly nodding in agreement! I like plain-talkers, and folk who don't shilly-shally around, with good old-fashioned values. John Prescott was another of that ilk, even though I'm not a Labour man.

There's a great old Scots word, which sums up what Widdecombe would do to most of the weak-willed muppets around today, posing as politicians, which right now is *exactly* what the Tories need: tober.
