Great speaker setup video

Always willing to learn something and gain some more knowledge about hifi set up I watched the video. Gary, thanks for posting.

I had a read about DynAudio and apparently they have one of the largest test chambers of any speaker manufacturer and do extensive testing and listening tests see https://www.dynaudio.com/dynaudio-ac...demark-quality.

I knew/suspected my speakers were probably not in the best spot being 33" to the front face from the front wall, and also the right speakers centre was only 12" from the side wall, whilst the left was 23" from it. This was mainly for aesthetics and Sue like it like that .

I decided to take some of the advice and have adjusted the position of my speakers, to where they are in the picture below, and my sitting position as per the starting point. So I measured length accurately 262” and width 138”, which meant that the front centre of the speakers need to be 52.5” from the front wall and 27.5” from the side walls, sitting 52.5 from rear wall, fortunately the sofa just fits between them with these measurements. I have previously had other speakers in similar positions but not the Vectors.

I used the tracks recommended for bass and imaging listening, (put below for your reference), and did some minor tweaks, changing them to have no backward rack to perfectly vertical and increased the toe in very slightly. Initially I found the 1/5 of room length from from front wall and 1/5 of width from side wall works really well. I tried moving them backward and forward up to 6” either way and it just took the definition away. The change of position actually makes quite a significant difference to the bass definition and the soundstage IMO.

What I really notice is that before where the speaker were if I moved a bit from where I felt it best to listen then clarity/definition was quickly was lost, but not now with them in the new position, the depth, detail and soundstage seems much more stable. To finish off I think I will move the hifi rack to the right about 12", and if necessary will slide the speaker back when not listening to keep Sue happy.

So it's well worth having a play.

Has you tried experimenting with dog placement? I expect Irish Red Setters have a more profound effect on reflected sound than say, Pugs.

From my sitting position my ears have a clear line of sit to the mid and bass drivers. I have moved the sofa towards the window for a listening session, and back again listening to the same tracks and TBH it makes SFA difference, I think of it as my acoustic sofa.

Harry is usually laid down to my right in his big soft cordouroy bed which acts as a perfect acoustic reflection dampening object. The vinyl collection is becoming a little out of hand I must admit, there is a 8*4 Kallax in the spare room/office which only has about 3.5 bays free. I really need to do some serious thinning out of the collection, I have looked at it several times and tried to create a list of those I would not miss, or may never play again, but that is as far as it gets, because I just think well I would quite like to listen to them again at some point.

I know which I play the most often as I have them all catalogued in Collectorz.com - Music Collector database, and each time I play a record I increment a counter for it.I know, OCD is taking me over. But it means I know which I have only listened to once, so I suppose I could just ditch all those, if I could bring myself to it.

I think I am becoming like some of the people in this book.
