    Default yamaha a-s2100 dream/repair

    hi all
i decided i was after a nice jap design integrated amp(renowned for there reliability) after 30 odd years odd of "british" and the "weird and wonderful"type amps that i usually buy.
was going to settle on something low in the chain, liked the look of the cheaper yamaha a-s range and even had one in the past and knew there sound was to my liking, anyway to cut a long story short i ended up with a yamaha a-s2100 for a good price,or so i thought.
the one issue for getting it so cheap was it isnt working and stuck in protection mode....hey whats life without a gamble or two.
anyway for those that know these amps know they have a self diagnostic and reset solution, alas the reset option never panned out, didn't think i would get that lucky so i went into the diagnostic set up and it seems to be showing the two flashing blinks....code for ps protection.
so off with the lid and....jesus...its a jungle in there and has some serious ps caps,i managed to download the service manual and that has maybe made realise i may be slightly out my depth regarding going in and having a play
my main problem is that im right down in penzance and i cant find anyone here who will touch it,so my first question is does anyone know of anyone who may be able to help me out within cornwall,it may not be working and i may of only had it 2 seconds but ive already adopted it as a pride and joy and would like to get it sorted.
failing that ive been in touch with the two yamaha service centers that yamaha gave me(no replies from them as yet but i cant see them being that cheap or caring) but there way up country so posting etc is going to be expensive and dodgy....cant see a courier showing a 25kg massive box much love when in transit and although i have the original box the original packaging is useless and broken.
im open to any or all solutions regarding my delima and getting this sorted so any help and ideas would be much appreciated.
my last option if i get no joy is going to man up and have a go myself....gulp,did i mention it was my pride and joy!!

    regards

I love the look of Yamaha gear - cool, elegant, stylish in a Bauhaus sort of way. They sound pretty good as well.

Hope you can get it sorted out without too much inconvenience and expense.

funny enough i got in touch and was chatting to russ this morning,he could of been the answer to my prays as only 17 miles up the road....alas russ bottled it and said no thanks as it could be beyond him and didn't have the time or space to dedicate to it if it got tricky, seems micro processing gubins can bring legends to there knees, nice guy all the same and appreciated his candor.
that encounter is also bringing the message home regarding having any luck finding someone down here,as you say he has 40 yrs experience and seems very well respected and talented and good at what he does and seems the go to guy for this sort of thing down here, not finding anyone else being mentioned to the same status or ability.

Wow, that is a bargain for such a classy high spec unit.

The manual says in a few places that the protection circuit kicks in if any speaker cables are shorted or touching the rear panel. I guess you have already looked at that. So I strongly assume either the protection module or another module is not seated correctly. With the unit off and lid removed use a flashlight and carefully check for loose cables and also 'jiggle' all cables and modules.

If there are any cables, such as ribbon cables, that can easily be unplugged/plugged I'd do that. I'd also gently push down any modules. Any if any dust build up anywhere do a good brush/vacuum. Obviously do everything gently but firmly. With a bit of luck all you have is a weak connection somewhere and these steps will cure it.
