    Nice pics Jim.

What's the mat, any improvements over riding bare back?

The mat is sorbathane and was supplied with the turntable. I disliked it at first but when you spend £2000 on a turntable they are hardly going to give you a mat that underperforms. I have tried many other mats but unbelievably nothing sounded better or quite right other than this cheap piece of sorbathane.

So VPI got it right although I think they do supply other mats and also recommend bare back playing.

Thanks Rob. It will be the only turntable I will ever have now unless I have a windfall and can afford one of the higher models but some of them are eyewatering price but probably sound eyewateringly good!

That looks a better mat than the one supplied with mine. Couple of questions Jimbo, what have you placed beneath the motor unit? And where did you get that slab of carbon fibre?

Hi Steve, the mat under the motor unit is an Amazon mouse mat! Does a great job isolating any motor vibration. The large slab under the turntable is compact laminate. It feels as heavy as granite and is made of thousands of layers of some material set in resin I believe. This sits on some sorbathane feet and does a very good job of Isolating the turntable from any other vibration.

As you know the turntable is massively heavy itself with a huge sheet of thick steel bolted under the plinth. The cone and ball feet add further Isolation.
