    Default 50p?

At the risk of sounding like a complete trainspotter in front of the cool kids, is anyone else collecting the 50p designs?

No, I just don't have the time - I'm too busy spotting Eddie Stobart lorries on the motorway and jotting down their reg numbers.

They have a tuck shop at work, I was complaining that they were charging ten bob for a pack of crisps, no-one knew what ten bob was.

No, I'm not collecting them although a mate advised me that there is a 50p coin that is worth 2 grand but I can't recall what design he said to look out for.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Yes I know - but my reply was meant to be taken in the same way as 'trainspotting'.

Kew gardens is pretty much the hardest to find of the individual designs as far as I'm aware, and can be pricey. But the 2009/10/11 sheild design were uncirculated and they are worth finding. The problem is that once you find out about these things a 50p is never the same again, you can't spend one or receive one in your change without checking what it is, it's addictive.

I have a book thingy in which I keep mine, in issue date order, and as I type that I realise how sad it looks
