    Default Single Input Amp

I've got a gorgeous new amp.

300b parallel configuration. Transformers like anvils.

Only problem is it only has a single line in going straight to the volume pot. I believe part of the incredible sound is partly due to the simplicity of the signal paths.

So would adding 2 more inputs and a selector switch degrade the sound quality? Of course any added impedance is not great but adding switches and wires just seems to go against the amps design philosophy . . . .

I'm using a very good selector switch (silver wiring blah blah) to select between digital and vinyl and the sound is better when connecting straight to source.

Obviously this adds an extra IC as well as the wiring/switch and input terminals of the selector box.

I know we're talking fine margins here but the sound with source directly connected is so damn pure its galling to imagine doing anything to the signal . . .

    Any thoughts?

I doubt it would degrade SQ. What is the volume control? You probably have a lot more degradation going through that than you ever would adding inputs. Imo.

Fine margins almost by definition are difficult to resolve blindfolded, so the probability of sighted bias is high.
I suggest using the posh switchbox for a couple of weeks, just relax and enjoy the sounds and convenience. Then swap back and see if the system is marginally better?

    Hi Alan,

I actually PM'd you detailing the parts along with a few questions ha!

Volume control is an alps blue so a TKD would be a nice upgrade, most can't tell a huge different between the TKD and Khozmo apparently.

As you imply, lots of SQ lost in cheap volume pots!

Do you fancy putting in a proper pot and adding a couple of inputs?

    Cheers

Good advice and likely a lot of the difference is in my head but as Alan has eluded to the volume pot is likely holding the SQ back a bit so might as well get some extra inputs added when that gets done.
