Default 1.5 MV is this a Moving Magnet Phono Stage

    Good Morning

I am asking because my current Nytech states a 1.5 MV board inbuilt is this acceptable for Moving Magnet or is it an MC stage ?

    Thank you

Moving magnet, MC output around 0.XX, there are high output MC's however.

I agree it’s most likely MM but does it specify the loading? If it’s 47kOhm then it’s definitely MM

    Morning Adam

Cool - Do you know where it would specify loading input on the Nytech Unit..?

There's probably only one way to be sure, call them, I believe they still exist.

It would be unusual at the manufacturing time, to be anything other than 47k I think.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Sensitivity of 1.5 mV is indicative of about 44 dB of gain so it will be a MM input with almost certainly a 47K load.

Personally I would not want to pair it with MM's having 5 mV or higher output as it is likely to sound a bit hot with those.

But probably quite alright with 3-4 mV output MM's and would also likely work well with high output MC's that have real world output in the 2.2 to 2.5 mV range and are designed to be used into a 47K input.

Used to have a Nytech integrated myself in the dark ages.

This sounds about right to me.
