Default Well designed LP covers, to open or not to open?

    Morning all,

I've received a copy of the Fight club soundtrack LP, with every intention of opening it to play and enjoy. But the cover has a sealed envelope type flap and a band/seal around it that has been designed to imitate an Ikea product label, it's a lot better looking and well put together than I'm making it sound. So I now find myself not wanting to open it. It was just over £40, so not cheap enough to buy a second to play.

What does everyone else do with these ornate covers, open and enjoy or leave intact?

    Cheers

    Rich.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Agreed - it's music to be played and enjoyed. It's not an objet d'art.

Agree to that as well, though to my mind the music is the more important half Without actually seeing the construction of the sleeve/envelope packaging, it's a bit difficult to say, but I would have thought it possible to carefully slit open the 'flap' with a scalpel, without making a mess of the packaging.

    Well, that was pretty conclusive

I did buy it for the music, not the packaging, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I know it's just a mass produced commercial design, but I feel like I'm breaking something some one has made. I'll wait till I've got a glass or two of scotch in me, it'll be open and on the TT in a second.

    Thanks for all the input.
