Default Squeezebox touch to Chromecast audio?

    Hi all,

I use my Squeezebox touch fairly regularly as a radio, but I'd quite like to put it on the other side of the room from my kit. I've got Chromecast audio plumbed into my amp so I wondered if it's possible to cast from the touch to chromecast?

I've googled it but there is pretty much nothing to be found on the subject, which leads me to think three things:

    1 it's not possible
2 it's very easy to do and I'm just a bit stupid (very likely)
3 no one has ever tried before.

Has anyone here ever cast to Chromecast from a touch?

    Cheers

    Rich.

    Sorry - this is wrong

I don't think that will work. You don't cast to a Chrome Cast. It's more like you tell it where to connect to, to get the content you want to watch. And that content needs to be on the web in a format (or hosted by a system) that the chromecast can understand.

So for example, if you want to watch a youtube clip via chromecast you effectively send a message to the chromecast saying "go to <youtube URL> and show clip from point x".

    Hi Rob,

Ah ok, I understand. I thought I could connect devices on the same network.

    Cheers

If you're running an LMS network behind your SB Touch, there is a plugin which allows a CCA to become a Squeezebox player, able to play everything that your SB Touch can.

Sorry - I've just looked at this again, and I was wrong. You can cast to a Chromecast Audio without the resource it will get the media from being on the internet. Please ignore my earlier comment.

I think I might have an LMS on an old laptop I had a load of music on from when I used to use the touch to play files, I'll check it out. Thank you.

If you're running the Touch on its embedded server then you'll find that it's next to useless.
Which radio stations are you listening to?
If it's anything BBC you should be able to cast the audio to a Chromecast device.

I have just ordered a Chromecast Audio player, to see how well it integrates with a RasPi running LMS in piCorePlayer - there is a plugin, and my interest is piqued.
