Suck it and see. I had the Takets, now running Tannoy ones.

Some evidence that they work through comb filtering causing perceptible phase shifts/other wave artifacts in the audible portion of the frequency range, most people seem to like the effect.

Depends what you mean by supertweeter, the ones that come in at 12-16khz will still contribute obviously.

Do you notice that the supertweeters are much more additive to your vinyl listening than to digital ? Or is that a hard call?

I use Focal Pro HF102. Good price and come in at about 105dB without the horn. Here they are mounted experimentally close to the voice centres of the mid range and existing tweeters.

In theory thats only around half an octave on a CD cut out and my existing tweeters go to 30khz. However i can get the room loading argument.

Isnt that driver just another tweeter ?

Yes and it might be the treble lift in that region from a second tweeter that causes all the audible effects.

You already have supertweeters then. And if properly integrated you won't get any comb filtering effects.

I doubt room loading has anything to do with it.

Also I'm mainly vinyl, probably not the best person to comment on digital.

You cant hear that high so how can it add an expansive air to the music!!? I cant hear above about 11khz so talk of supertweeters is a bloody nonsense. you cant hear it so its adding nothing to the enjoyment of the music.

I was looking at some B & W floorstanders yesterday. £3300 and not a super tweeter anywhere in sight

Do the hearing test as I dont think most people have got a clue what a continuous 15khz tone sounds like. You wont be missing an expansive air above that.

I think I can enjoy the music just fine with my middle aged hearing. Ive got 6 tweeters on my pa speakers which I mix with another two on my Royds. I dont feel Im missing much important information

See post #11. A sound doesn’t need to be in the audible domain to have an effect in the audible domain. The question is whether you like what they do, not whether they do anything.
