    lots of lovely diy
What was the amplifier that was being used to drive them?

Actually the only way you can overdrive Quad 57s is to feed them with a signal of greater than 33V peak, when they will then arc-over. That's not to say however that if driven hard (loud) they won't sound good - it depends on the room.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I had a great day at the show. What struck me was the very high percentage of great sounding systems. Good but all different. At commercial shows there’s normally only a few systems that I think are any good and most of it sounds terrible to me.

Hi Ollie, you've guessed correct, it was my room.
To be more precise it was Room 106, 'The Build it Yourself, or if You Can't, Get Someone to Build it for You Suite'
All the devices in use are on the The Wam Speadsheet, the only change being the TT set up.
The Quads were like a Teenage Angus Young, they rocked the party.
We had 'Air Guitarists' in the room, and head bobbing to match a front row at a 'Motorhead' Concert.
    Definately do it all again.

So what are those power monoblocks? Your own design?
