    Default Dipping my toe

I finally decided to try a network player and when Vince posted his Cambridge NP30 for sale I went for it.
After a fair amount of swearing setting it up, all the instructions tell you is what it can do, not how to do it, I got it going and I'm well pleased with it. I'm a complete novice to this media and coupled with my fists of ham it's taken a while to get to grips with the ruthless logic of the beast.
I've been exploring the hundreds of radio stations, something for everyone and linked it to Spotify.
I wish I'd got it years ago, it sounds great and I love the convenience. It certainly won't be making my other sources redundant but I can see it getting plenty of use.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

First streaming experience? It’s great, so much so explore. Try music genres and albums you never normally would have considered.
    Some great recommendations on here.

Ian, well done for getting started on the digital front. Bear in mind if you are using the Radio streaming services the quality of what you get will be totally dependant on what the bit rate and frequency of the files used by the station and the streaming rate. Most will be using MP3, which is lossy digital, and some will as you picture shows being using low-res files. Your uint is capable of handling reasonably high res files, have a read up.
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Thanks chaps. As I said I'm very new to streaming so have a lot to learn. I'm thoroughly enjoying the flexibility it gives and as you say Mand it's the chance to explore genres and styles I might normally ignore. When I get used to it I'll connect the NP using an ethernet cable instead of wi-fi as the manual says it will process more information that way. You wait, it won't be long before I'm upgrading lol.

Hi Dave, yes it has two USB ports so that adds flexibility. I'm still exploring the multitude of internet radio stations, it's amazing the different levels of sound quality. A friend came here yesterday and we spent the afternoon reliving our musical adolescence using Spotify, I could have played records and CD's but just typing in what we wanted meant we played such a weird mix of songs.
