Do you know the voltage? If you can't find originals, there are various festoon bulbs for vintage cars and bikes that may do and also prewired LED's that may provide suitable back-lighting.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
No mate I don’t know the voltage and a schematic doesn’t appear to exist, next step will be the magnifying glass

if you feel you can do it safely, check the voltage across the bulb terminals with a meter when the amp is fired up. That's what I'd do, not suggesting everybody should try it though.
