Default For sale - Tannoy 15" Monitor Reds and Crossovers

In superb condition. Clean and untarnished enamel. Crossovers are original and have not been used or tested by me and will need servicing before use. I have used these drivers daily for the past two years using a pair of modern external crossovers and the sound is outstanding.

Serial numbers 045884 and 046554 which makes them early 1960s production.
Will be safely shipped in purpose made packaging or collection from Lymington, Hampshire. For international postage cost please enquire.
These are currently on eBay for £5,000, but forum price £4,500 including UK mainland postage.

This is like waving a nice exotic steak in front of drooling mouths. You might get a higher chance selling them on ebay.

I had a pair of these in a set of braced GRF cabs, with custom x-overs and they were amazing.

I would have kept them but my drivers were a long way from the state of these and had various issues...

I did consider selling my RAs and going back to chasing the dream with these but unfortunately circumstances now prevent that sort of behaviour...

Also contrary to general opinion on here, with the Reds I thought they were good with a SE 300b amp, be it the Art Audio Diavolo model I had at the time. (I also had the Concerto KT88 model which was definitely better on the Golds but with the Reds it was more different than better...)

Stunning things, Clive. I originally had a pair of 15" Monitor Reds in my Lockwood Major cabinets, and they sounded truly amazing, especially with voices and acoustic material, where the clarity and spine-tingling realism they produced was, quite frankly, just breathtaking!!

If anyone with room to house them, in suitable-sized cabinets, and who owns a quality valve amp (preferably SE) wants to hear what their favourite music REALLY sounds like, and is looking for a 'final' pair of speakers, *this* is it!

Thanks Mike and Marco. I agree with everything you say. Being 15 ohm impedance they do work better with SET amps than Golds and they do have that totally beguiling sweet touch in the midrange.
Marco, it was reading your thread on your journey into Tannoyland that first started me off on this path.
I need to downsize my collection of unused kit and would still be using these but the Golds are matching numbers with the cabinets and it would be criminal to separate them, so these Reds have to go.

Nice one, Clive. The 15 ohms/SE thing was the reason that the Reds weren't 100% compatible in my system, which as you know is why I swapped them for Golds, but if you have a quality SE valve amp (vintage is probably best), with 15 ohms taps, then with the Reds, it'll be a marriage made in heaven!

These are special speakers, which with the right kit, are capable of producing a *very* special sound, so I hope they go to a good home, and someone who will appreciate their considerable talents

Sell some of your 'surplus stock' then, daftee... These aren't £4.5K - they're £20k or £30k speakers, sound quality-wise, which just happen to be selling for a price that doesn't in any way reflect their sonic capabilities.
