What is an enhanced CD? I've just ripped one to my server and whilst its ripped successfully, the CD and my ripper seemed to be having a right old tussle at the start

There were some weird cd formats that came out about ten years ago. Popular in Japan I think. It's probably one of them. Can't remember what it was about them that supposedly made them special. Maybe someone else can recall?

SHM CD, Blu Spec CD, Blue Spec 2, HQCD, UHQCD, Platinum SHM-CD all are still CDs but made to a higher standard.

    Some info here http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/feature/shmcd_allabout

I would have thought as they are still CDs that there would be no compatibility issues re discs being recorded.

I would look very carefully at the insert both front and back and see if it has the normal CD statement . If it does not then it does not meet the red book standards which happened with a number of CD's that had additional digital information that would try and prevent you from copying the disc when you put it in a PC . These faded away and were abandoned but there are still some examples out there.

If the disc does have the CD statement then as noted above it is likely to one of the enhanced foramts that were prevalent in Japan but quite scarce here due to the price premium being asked.
