Default Looks like ebay are desperate for sellers

    Had this email from them

On 3rd March 2019, eBay is making it free to list for private sellers.
For private sellers with no shop:
From 3rd March you’ll receive a whopping 1,000 Free Listings a month. Currently your Free Listings cover 1 and 3 day duration listings. After the change, if you choose to list for these shorter durations, you’ll be charged a Special duration listing upgrade fee of £0.35, regardless of the number of listings you’ve used.
These changes exclude Classified Ad listings and items listed in the Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles category.
For private sellers with a shop:
From 3rd March you’ll receive the same benefits and conditions as private sellers without a shop. Additionally, you’ll receive 100 free listings with 1 and 3 day Special duration listing upgrade, after that each listing costs £0.35.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Yes Although I seem to remember I got 100 free listings anyway.I havent sold on there for quite a while as I tend to sell in small bursts...per month?...I never sold enough to get anywhere near that figure so It didnt worry me

I sussed out that by the time I had packed things and gone to the post office only certain items were worth my time selling online. I give certain collectables a good home but its rarely worth my time

I dont think they are short of sellers as I buy lots every year on ebay. I dont know if they worry about shpock, facebook or gumtree for example. I think they have been buying up some of the competition.

I like ebay because its stiil the go to site for most collectables. I find all I want on there really.

If they offered even a small amount of protection for sellers they might get a few more of them.

Not much use having a free listing when the buyer sticks it to you and ebay side with them.

I used to sell 100's of items on eBay but no longer.

Too much hassle and too many dodgy buyers happy to buy your item, claim a: it didn't arrive it b: it's faulty, it c: it's damaged, and eBay won't help you without jumping through hoops, finding the Holy Grail and digging up Jimmy Hoffa.

I'm happy to use it for buying though

New T&Cs update today - looks like from next month tracking of sold items is "required"...

We want to let you know that we’ve updated the eBay.co.uk User Agreement.

These changes are effective immediately for new members and from the 4 March 2019 for current members.

We want to make selling and buying on eBay a fair process, so we’re updating our tracking policy. As of 4 March 2019, you are required to upload tracking in the structured data field before the estimated delivery date has passed.

It's not clear how or if this will be enforced.
Obviously it's sensible to track expensive items, but this will increase costs for cheaper items that are often just trusted to the post.

I see where you are coming from Jerry...it's a bit harsh of ebay to expect you to send everything recorded with tracking sevices and probably where a signature will be required on receipt...I wonder if the postage options to send via ordinary 1st or 2nd class royal mail items will be removed from the postage options when you list an inexpensive item...They'll shoot themselves right in the foot if they do...I think what ebay are saying in there usual little information as possible way...If you do send an item that is tracked, you must put the tracking info up pretty much straight away...

What gets me is the lack of communication from some buyers. Ive just sent off a vintage headphone lead and Ive had no reply to my nice opening message. Its a niche market...new copy leads are available and Sennheiser sell them so it would be nice to know they are keen on the original lead...nothing so I play the feedback waiting game

Some of them wait months to leave feedback. I had one person saying "Ive tested the lights all winter and they are fine". It does get way beyond a joke

Its certainly a buyers market. Yes I make a few quid but I feel quite uneasy going through the process.

Its also getting so dumbed down that ebay write the description for lazy sellers so you get pages of games with one line copied in by ebay.

I know how to sell properly and ebay are making it a tickbox affair which I bypass anyway. I often send it recorded delivery but feel I should decide when Im going to do that on lower priced items.
