    Default The Beast has landed

I am now the proud owner of this Beast. (So called because it weighs a ton and is ugly, in a sexy sort of way).
It is driving the 15" MGs in the manner I have been searching for ever since I got the Tannoy GRFs. My Shindo amps had a mid-range to die for but couldn't keep up with large scale orchestral music, the EAR836 had the grip and more than enough power but was somewhat lacking in musicality, the STA15 was the best so far, but I was always wondering if it would be better with a few more watts. So I was always on the lookout for a STA25 or STA100, and could not believe my luck when I saw Tom's post.
I had a problem with it to start with that turned out to be valve related and is now resolved. I have to say both Tom and Will at Radford Revival have been as helpful as you could wish for and are perfect gentlemen to deal with.
Its all been said before about this amp, but with the 15" MGs it has total control and authority, is lightening fast - the leading attack is the best I have heard, and the bass is powerful and controlled, although I don't think it goes any deeper than the STA15. If I was picky, possibly a little less musical in the mid-range than the STA15 but that could well be just a factor of the type of valve, KT88 v EL34. I am listening to Starker Plays Kodaly at the moment and the timbre and texture of the cello is just perfect.
I don't expect to be changing amps again for a very long time!

Now how many audiophiles including Tom have made that statement?
