Default Rothwell Headspace seems to have died

Switched on my gear today to spin some tunes and my headspace seems to have died

Does anyone know if there's a fuse underneath the main board?

Attached is an image under the board , it looks like R513 should be checked. Headspacepcb2.jpg

The pcb markings indicate there is 24v DC - the first component is a diode on the right tp of the board, it will be fairly impervious to damage,
however the what looks to be a relf resistor labelled R513 should be checked. If it is open circuit - then you need to assess why it failed.

With your multimeter and the unit not powered - carefully check for resistance across R513. If it measures OK the fault is elsewhere.

I knew it wouldn't be so simple. I was hoping for a tiny glass fuse underneath.
Ok I'll have to take a look tomorrow.

    Thanks for the reply Chris!

Looking at the board there is a display led - it is before R513 in the circuit - so if it is going and the device is not, then further indicates R513 is open circuit.

If the led is not going then either the diode ( unusual for it to fail ) or your 24v supply has a fault. With any DC connection , polarity can be a party stopper
so you need to have positive arriving where it should and negative also where it should be. Reversal of polarity is why the diode is placed on the board.
If you for some reason have polarity reversal the diode will save the day,

If its a resistor that is open circuit then you will need to ascertain its resistance value - perhaps a email to the manufacturer, but at a guess its approximately 6k8
as this would allow 35ma in the rest of the circuit. If you look carefully at the resistor there might be a marking on it. 6k8 will be marked as 682

A replacement in a Relf type is awkward, as they are a fairly specialist resistor , however I could send you a equivalent 1206 or a 0802 surface mount.

Just been chatting with Andrew Rothwell. We've found the Headspace is working perfectly. It's the wall wart power supply that's decided to fail.
Andrew is sending me out a new 1, Hopefully today.

    Thanks Andrew! Excellent customer service

Nope. Unfortunately he decided not to renew his trade account, so it was cancelled. Glad you got things sorted though, Nathan

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
