    Default Ceramic valve bases

I'm looking at component selection for my Sondex upgrades. I've come across ceramic valve bases, does ceramic have any known advantages over other valve base materials?

Heat resistance for eg. Transmission valves. The critical thing for most everyday valves is the snugness of fit, and the corrosion resistance of the pin sockets IMO. Here NOS McMurdo and better quality bases do make a real difference, and last longer too.

Aye Teflon is the way to go methinks.
“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

Yup definitely Teflon. Helps damp any microphony I reckon.

That said some microphony in valves can sound either rubbish or really good. At least that is the conclusion I have come to. Seems to depend a lot on the valve as to how it rings and whether it constitutes good or bad sounding colouration.

Valve microphony acts much like a stylus pickup in a record player, which DEFINITELY acts as a microphone in effect.

Real instruments act as mics too. Electric guitars are just one example.
