Hold on, so having a WiFi connection on the Pi, even when files are accessed from attached storage via cable impacts the sound quality negatively?
Wouldn't that mean earlier Pi's that didn't have any WiFi inbuilt would be superior? From what I understand, there is no way to disable the WiFi connection on the Pi, so even when using via ethernet wired, doesn't mean the WiFi part of the Pi isn't doing something in the background still.h

That was my experience. I don't know if it about how wifi is implemented on the Pi but I found a smearing of detail and a certain graininess. With the Rpi connected to the router: everything tightened up! Why? I don;t know but the effects were clearly audible on my Maggies.
