Marco, I totally get how a big hi-def TV would get one hooked on movies. I see them on display at the shops and home shows - remarkable stuff! Really stunning image quality. A good friend of ours is a true film buff, and chatting with him about his passion gives me a better appreciation of what draws people to film. Always a fascinating conversation. And don't get me wrong - we love a good film, and will go to the theatre if there is something really worthwhile showing. Who knows, one day we may get a hankering to watch more movies and then treat ourselves to a big screen box. Hockey games will be a very, er, immediate experience...sticks and sweat and broken teeth flying right out of the screen.

As for relegating the TV to the basement rec room, we have a modestly-sized house and having a TV squawking away in the main floor living room would just be too distracting for others in the family not watching. That, and as mentioned, we just don't watch that much TV...not worth taking up valuable living room space for it.

Looking forward to trying good old-fashioned unhomogenized whole milk again. Cappucinos will never be the same . I just checked the Dairy's web site, and they show that our local Italian grocer carries their products, so we might actually be able to get it during our frequent visits there. Will check next time we're in...prob. tomorrow . BTW, no dairy still does home delivery here any more. That is long gone, since the '60s. Some rather large territories to cover here...a wee bit more driving for the milkman than in Wales

    Cheers,
    Svend

+1 for Samsung SSD ... I have amassed quite a few over the last years; some for use in my various Macs (the speed boost over HDD is phenomenal !!) and others for general storage.
Also used with my collection of RPi without resorting to powered hub or any other 'additional' power supplies ... work flawlessly and never miss a beat. I even use one to record programmes on the TV

So far I have had not a single one fail or become corrupted, which was to me the scourge of every brand of HDD I have tried over the years (WD, Maxtor, Toshiba, Seagate, etc.etc.etc.)

Nice one, Svend. Totally understand and agree with you on all of the above! Good news on getting the milk sourced more locally, too. When you try it, please update me on the coffee thread

Back on topic: have you compared the onboard DAC hat on your Pi to a Pi with outboard DAC? It seems some here are using that type of setup. I'm curious as to how the Allo hats perform. From all accounts (i.e. very few) they seem rather good.

Yup, that is perfectly plausible. There are some pretty remote communities up north, that would take days to drive to. But a quick hop with a small plane and you're there. Bush planes, some with floats, are a common sight. Here's why:

    Scotland - 78,000 km2
    Wales - 21,000 km2
    Ontario (just one of Canada's 13 provinces and territories) - 918,000 km2
All of Canada - 10,000,000 km2 (10% of which is water, hence the popularity of float planes)

I use an RPi 3B+ and Allo Digione with Caiman SEG plus Dorado. The Digione is a steal at its price point but the synergy with the SE G is exceptional
