BTW. Audivarna is superbly simple for using Tidal on a Pi!
Hold on, so having a WiFi connection on the Pi, even when files are accessed from attached storage via cable impacts the sound quality negatively?

Wouldn't that mean earlier Pi's that didn't have any WiFi inbuilt would be superior? From what I understand, there is no way to disable the WiFi connection on the Pi, so even when using via ethernet wired, doesn't mean the WiFi part of the Pi isn't doing something in the background still.h

I would think it would affect it, the wifi will be hunting for a signal all the time. You can probably switch it off by editing Linux.

Edit: just googled it, can be done no problem

That was my experience. I don't know if it about how wifi is implemented on the Pi but I found a smearing of detail and a certain graininess. With the Rpi connected to the router: everything tightened up! Why? I don;t know but the effects were clearly audible on my Maggies.

Only when you execute a scan - why would it hunt for anything otherwise,?

If a packet is addressed to it, it will respond, otherwise it has no reason to ... think of it like Royal Mail sorters, if nothing comes in they go off for a fag break
