Pertwee and Baker for me though, never rated any of the others before or since, although that Scottish bloke wasn't bad, David Tennant? Summat like that anyway. Second one after the reboot. Only seen a few of his mind and not rated any of them since.

As for female Doctor - well I'd argue that if a white man can't play Othello then a woman can't be Dr Who, simple as that. Although it's the stories that let it down now, if they got better and they dumped the unhealthy obsession with the characters' sexuality I'd start watching it again. I'll give anything that's sci-fi a go.
    Oh my word!

I couldn't remember who Peri was, not having watched that many Doctor Who episodes, so I did a quick google. It led me to a You Tube clip "Peri saved from drowning". Something for adults of all ages!

And at the end of the clip when her rescuer produces this giant silver er, "toy" and asks her "What's this?" I almost spat out my cornflakes.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

It's always been a kiddies programme but this latest series takes it to a new level. I managed half of the first episode and 10% of the second. Won't bother with any more. It's just so contrived and childish.

Im glad people are generally agreeing with me. I really wanted to like the more recent stuff but see it as a missed opportunity to take it to a new level. It was always more Enid Blyton than Arthur C Clarke so I wanted it deeper and darker.

Yes its always been a childrens programme or light family entertainment. I really like the idea of Dr Who but dont think much of it stands up to real critical appraisal. The Daleks are a brilliant invention though and could do with a decent movie.

The latest Dr is the result of some PC meeting...hey guys we could........ Call me sexist but it doesnt work.

I know why my Dad watched it...Leela...funny how they were all lovely, well spoken, shakespeare company/ rada actresses. ( actors in PC terms)

Pop a bikini on...the monsters are coming!....dont mess with the basic formula

I appreciate that it is TheSun however the figures are likely to be reasonably accurate, presumably they have also been monitoring social media and Fan sites for comment.

For me it was the Egyptian mummies in 'The Pyramids Of Mars'. Well scary.

One thing about those old Dr Whos; a lot of people got killed - especially UNIT soldiers and pretty much every minor character in every episode. The Dr would not usually solve the mystery until everyone except him and the companion were dead.

Check out some of those old Pertwee episodes like 'The Daemons' and look at the body count. UNIT must have had a higher casualty rate than a Japanese kamikaze squadron. You couldn't do that on a children's show now.

And everyone would always be blazing away with rifles and machine guns despite the fact that the monsters were always completely immune to bullets.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
