    My mate has a pair stored in a cellar, are these any good, what would you pay?

    I'd be surprised if they're not an excellent speaker. They're just always compared to the 1000's which is unfair.

    Do you actually mean the NS-650 (rather than the 560) if so then I wouldn’t say they would interest you given the speakers you already own - unless as a bit of fun/project.

    I owned a pair of NS 500 from yamaha a few years ago.
    Almost the same berillium tweeter as the 1000, coupled to a light, paper coned 10" bass unit.

    Although housed in a very heavy, well built and veneered cab, to be frank they were not good.
    Treble like "chucking razor blades" (eddie van halen TM) and surprisingly poor, thudding bass.

    I'll put money on the above sounding the same.
