Default Stepping into the headphone world...

Have a new preamp coming which has a pretty good built in headphone amp, so thought I’d revisit having a decent set of cans.
Doing more late night movie n music listening, so looked into a good set of headphones that wouldn’t limit the sound of my Pre.
Secondary to listening to the main system, but still wanted something decent.

After a fair bit of reading over on HeadFi the choice (to a novice)seemed to swing between ultra revealing monitor style cans or ones meant more for musicality.
Wanted the latter, so after a bit of humming and hawing plumped for a set of Beyerdynamic Amiron.

Well reviewed over on head-fi, and the sound quality being described was what I was looking for.
    https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/bey....21982/reviews

Another review that swung it for me here:
    https://kenrockwell.com/audio/beyer/amiron.htm

    So pretty good then...sorted.

A question for headphone guru’s (Tony, you there? )
Is it worth swapping out the cable for something premium?
By all accounts the supplied one is pretty good, but just wondering.

    Thanks much.

From my experience, where a headphone is already supplied with a good quality cable, the main advantage of upgrading (in my case mainly to good value Chinese silver plated copper litz type cables) tends to be a moderate increase in transparency and soundstage.

    Mixed feelings Gary....

you might get sonic gains but what is often overlooked is the efforts the big boys make to isolate the cable from your clothing....dome cables can generate awful mechanical noise.

Brian tried my alternative cable on the 650s and came to the same conclusion as me...minimal sonic difference but an awful lot of noise when moving about.

Mind and give them a couple of hundred hours to bed in before making any judgements.

It would be interesting to hear them against the 650s/700s!!!

A whole new can of worms like vinyl.
I have had my grado 325 for years and swapped the metal cans for walnut ones, not much difference if any. Then a while back I bought a little dot 1+ headphone amp and thought it better but nothing special. Then a couple of weeks ago someone here was looking for a little dot 1+ and Norman came up with one and talked about op amps and valve swapping. Bought mullard cv4014 valves and LT1364 op amp and bingo, best I've heard and as good to listen to as my main kit in a dedicated, treated listening room. Only downside is the foam pads on grado's are like wearing a hair shirt and the ones I have now are not the standard ones but just as uncomfortable. So I wish you luck and hope your combination of phones and amp work for you.

Only heard them playing from my phone, sound good but will know better at the weekend when the new Preamp drops.
From what I’ve read the cable it comes with is plenty good enough.

As you say Tony, won’t make any judgements till they have some time on them.
Welcome to hear them any time mate, be interesting to compare to the Senn’s.
