Default Roon update: lots including Qobuz support

Over the last day or so Roon has released a new version (1.6). The big headline is full Qobuz support (in addition to Tidal) which, in my mind, future proofs Roon as I was concerned about the financial stability of Tidal. I may give Qobuz a whirl (they have a 1 month free trial).

Also in this latest version there have been quite a lot of useful other changes mainly revolving around how things are presented. Certainly things are even easier to navigate.

Not that I can see, but their implementation was pretty good anyway - obviously depends on the quality of the stream which is outside Roon's control.

Or do you mean the 'Roon Radio' feature? This is essentially new and so far it is coming up with very impressive/interesting suggestions.

Was surprised to see the update when I got home last night, updated and sat back to see what's what.

Love it, even if for no other reason that I can now use my Ipad Pro in portrait mode running Roon, makes a big difference.
Now it feels like an interactive magazine for choosing your music, very cool.

Major overhaul of the Now Playing screen, much clearer, more informative, intuitive with large hires artist picture and better metadate.

Now: if only they concentrate on upping the sound quality...
    AC POWER
Hardwired 10kVA balanced mains powering entire system

    Wharfedale Evo 4.4
    DAC
    PS Audio Directstream (Modded)
    TURNTABLE
Pro-Ject X8 balanced output via XLR / Ortofon Quintet Blue cartridge
    PHONOSTAGE
Pro-Ject DS3 B balanced Input (TT and Phonostage powered by Pro-Ject Power box RS2 linear psu)
    DIGITAL
OPPO 203 (Modded: Linear PSU, i2s output to Dac) - Roon Endpoint, HDMI input used for all things Streaming/ PS5 /AppleTV ... also good for movies apparently?
    MUSIC PLAYBACK
Tweaked AP-Linux based Roon Server into Oppo 203 as Roon endpoint
    Ipad Roon Remote.
Apple Music/ YouTube via AppleTV, fed to Dac via Oppo HDMI input/i2s output to Dac.

Biwired: Duelund DCA10GA (Bass) Duelund DCA16GA (mid & treble) Duelund 12DCA used as jumpers (On
"Blackcat Cable" Chris Sommivigo's advice - yup, even with biwire it sounds better - and it does)

Can you do vertical scrolling, my biggest hate when I trialled Roon several times was the horizontal scrolling of albums etc.

Vertical scrolling only ever worked with the Ipad Pro's, not the standard ones Mike.
The new update enables portrait mode in the latest 2018 models Pro's, so able to use vertical scrolling for the first time in Roon.

And very cool it is too, makes far more sense especially with a bigger ipad.

I use an iPad pro, my other issue with Roon is the need for the ( almost) latest iPad and I hate enforced hardware upgrades, wish companies would STOP the churn in gadgets and devices.

I'll give Roon another go once they add Spotify

We use a family sub for Spotify so it doesn't make sense to start another service as my kids and grandkids all use Spotify daily.

Roon looks to have put out a decent update though

In what way can they improve the sound quality? What are you comparing it with? Genuinely interested.

Agreed about the iPad version. I was annoyed about needing at least IOS 11 on my Ipad to use Roon remote. I don't use the iPad enough to justify getting one that accept IOS 11.

I asked Roon about Spotify and they would love to have it as a service within Roon but Spotify has refused. Takes two to tango.

my ipad 4 is 32 bit as well, so put Roon out for me really as i like a remote being incapacitated lol. The Audirvana remote is only 32 bit so works fine....for now anyway. Many say AV is better sounding than Roon, so this may be where the upgrade is wanted.

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
