Interesting they went for a nude Shibata. I think that's Ortofon's first? Though a step back in a way from the more exotic Replicant types in some recent higher-end SPUs.

Yes, a notable choice but Shibata tips do have their advantages and Ortofon have used them for yonks so they know how to get the most out of different tips in different applications. I think that the SPU Century is significantly distinguished from other SPUs by having a metal and stabilised* fossil beechwood shell, which is a great deal more substantial than other SPUs using wood composite shells.

* Stabilised means that the fossil beechwood (presumably thousands of years old, like bog oak) is impregnated under pressure with resin to stabilise and harden it
