I was wondering if you were having a "Shit, what have I done?" moment.

Paul@RFC knows his stuff, even I (a Tannoy hater) can find his modded Tannoys listenable!

Irritating about the amp, though - hopefully it's all now sorted.
Yeah my thoughts too, I only got the amp back to 100% last week so I wasn't really focussing on how the speakers sounded, I could tell they were better but couldn't sit down and have a decent listen without faffing about switching the amp off, letting valves cool down and then swap one and so on.

I'll be honest, I sent a text Tony ( weeteecee ) to say I was selling everything and giving up I was so frustrated and fed up with it all.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Like you wouldn't believe, let's just say I'm more like the Angry Man in Chewin' The Fat than a Buddhist Monk, and this amp issue has brought that to the fore.

My first real valve amp and I love it and hate it at the same time, mind you 14 valves doesn't help

Whenever I get troubles with a valve amp I promise myself I will NEVER get another one.
High maintenance, but they can sound very good.

Never had any bother with a valve amp. Had a few dodgy transistor examples though.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Wow - I reckon I've had at least a 10 to 1 ratio of valve against tranny amp problems.
Pretty much all to do with dodgy valves.
