I borrowed Jerry's. It does sound good. Surprisingly so I thought since my tastes usually dictate valves.
But this really does sound good and it is solid state. Achievement

I'm Lawrence.
I used to love my Challenger. Nice to see they haven't dropped the tradition of putting the name on the front in glowing red letters

Whoa guys - different animals.
The Challenger is an integrated amp from Restek's midline range.
The Consens on sale here is a preamp from their premium range - and while the Challenger is good, the Consens provides an altogether higher level of sound quality imho.
(I've owned both. In fact, the commercial relationship between Restek and Trigon - I think some Restek engineers founded Trigon - led me to buy my current Trigon monoblocks -- which are excellent!)
.
Up please

Yay, lucky new owner. A very fine pre.
.
Thinking about it, memory says I actually had a Challenger. OK for an integrated but didn't keep it long.
Also, this thing is on another level to the Challenger in terms of general impressiveness. This is a nice preamp.
That R/C is just weird, though. Takes some getting used to!
Enjoy.
Well, congratulations to the new owner,
It is indeed a very fine pre-amplifier, I continue to enjoy mine with my Extract Monos, the Consens has no signature of it's own, it's very silent in that respect.
A joy to own.
