    Actually making you chicken soup?
If it's from scratch she must love you!

My ex's idea of cooking chicken soup was opening a can, pouring the contents into a pan, and heating it up.
    Even then she'd burn it.
    The woman could burn water

Persevere with the Chromecast Audio - it isn't difficult to get working.

Is there a break in period on this Xiang sheng? Also is it much different in 'tube' mode? At the mo sounds a bit thick and warm.

Have a good old listen in both states Mike playing the same tracks in as quieter conditions as you can muster and see what you prefer.

Play a familiar track in tubless mode then play the exact same track again with the tube in the chain. I reckon you will hear a difference even if only a small one.

However what you prefer might take time to work out.

Don't like this Xiang Sheng dac, presentation is too warm with my Quad 909, should I get a Topping dac instead?

I liked the XiangSheng, but I moved on to the Topping D30 and found it a bit brighter and quite a bit more detailed and open sounding. I think the Topping is a better DAC.

Why don't you just try the tube mode? All you need to do is move the RCAs.

You can easily change the sound by changing the valves.

I dislike solid state DACs as this isn't an option.

I don't think it changes with burn in. Mind you I don't think anything gets much different with burn in. If you don't like it move on to something else.
