    Default Headphone connection

I am thinking about getting my first pair headphones after many years of only listening to speakers.
I have a separate pre and power amp,the latter having two inputs, one for pre and one for cd direct.
Accordingly I listen to vinyl through the pre and cd direct to the power amp.
I can obviously connect a headphone amp to the tape monitor output of my pre but will then only be able to listen to vinyl unless I go to the hassle of changing cd connections. However my cd also has an optical output so if I could find a h/a with an rca and optical input would this work ok using both inputs ,and does such a thing exist.
Many thanks for any advice given.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

And also make sure it has optical, some now just have USB as many headphone users are dropping physical media.

Put the CD through the Pre-amp? I bet your ears can't tell the difference.
Then you could output to head-amp.
