Default Newbe: Jozua from Cape Town

Hi, I'm Jozua from Cape Town South Africa

I consider myself a serious audiophile- at least I think so. Been a solid state lover but has during the last two years switched to valves and I am loving it !

My biggest challenge currently is finding good high resolution music. I prefer SACD disks as the risk of loss is less but I am not resistant to buying downloads.

Amplification is ARC and current speakers are DIY Newdorm Research Speakers. Yammie CDS 3000 is the source.

    For me a wonderful combo.

I hope to make some new friends here and learn from the experts !

    Hi Jozua
Welcome to the forum. The ECM label has some good recordings. Frank Zappa's recordings were always good, likewise hard to fault
King Crimson for quality recording, with the exception of Earthbound that makes up for SQ deficiency with excellent musicianship
With valve amps they like to see speakers with higher impedance, whereas solid state is the opposite. Looks like you have a nice
combination of gear, getting you close to the music.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Welcome to AoS Jozua,

You have some nice gear there. When you say you are looking for high resolution music, are you refering to recording quality? What are your tastes in music?

    Enjoy the Forum

    Jozua,

I am guessing from your reference to SACD that you mean high bit rate music. If this is the case then I would strongly advise you to check out Tidal streaming. The Tidal Master Quality albums are, in my opion, an improvement over the standard 16/44 files.

BTW, I miss going to Cape Town. At various times I lived and worked in Botswana and Namibia and used to pop down to RSA for RnR.
