    Default Pink Floyd Animals

One of my Christmas vinyl choices will be Pink Floyd's 'Animals' on vinyl.

Although the usual option would be to buy from Amazon, I see there are some terrible reviews for it there, citing muddy sound, warped discs and surface imperfections. One person bought a copy and it was so bad he had them send another - which was even worse.

Has anyone experienced this, and do you think I would be better sending the lucky giver to an independent shop or HMV? At least this way I can return more easily. Or does anyone know of a particular pressing/issue to look for or avoid?
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

Probably all going to come from same place and thus it's going to be same risk.
The returns policy/ease of return, of the seller is most important.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

You wouldn't consider getting an original vinyl version second hand? It sold a lot, there are plenty of them out there.

    That is a sensible suggestion.

I bought the original album new and I know mine is like new, because it's hardly been played as I didn't really like it much. I rate it as one of Floyd's weaker efforts and suspect others may have thought the same.

It's actually my favourite later Floyd album possibly because it is the only one I haven't played to death.

    In short, no!
If it gets bought in a bricks and mortar store it needs to be returned to one, and they do not reimburse you for your travel costs.
Amazon send you a returns label by email. You repack the LP in the packaging they originally provided, pop on the returns label, and take it to the Post Office or nominated returns store in your area.
They will give you a receipt, and the refund (to the original purchaser) will occur within a day or three.

I have purchased two of the last run of reissues (DSOTM & WYWH), and the pressing quality was excellent.
I bought them in Sainsbury stores.

Anita has bogged off into town armed with my music 'wish list' and all my wages (honestly, using my wages to pay for my Christmas pressies, I think I need to have a word)

If she doesn't return with a copy of Animals, I'll go with Macca's and Geoff's suggestion and seek out a used original. I re-acquired DSOTM and WYWH in the last couple of years, and as I've posted before I found the recordings to somehow lack 'sparkle'. Though the jury's out whether that's more to do with my hearing being a bit shit these days.

Thanks Chris, I was not aware of Amazon's returns policy (never had to use it). Good to know.

    .
Might also be that you listen to a lot more digital recordings these days. On a decent set up you can easily hear the difference. So when you go to play some of the old stuff the drop in fidelity can be a bit of a shock, unless it was a stellar quality analogue recording which neither of them were. I know that is how it is with me, anyway.
