Now this would be really funny if this started cropping up. Although I wouldn't be able to see it!

Stupid adverts. Now I'm considering buying a 'Gorillaz' G shock watch.

    No, not really.

Them Victoria's Secrets birds still haven't turned up. I've tagged the thread with that now too, see what transpires.

Obviously all of you with ad block will miss it if it does happen.

It was a message that now pops up when I switch the computer on. Words to the effect that you can speed things up by removing unnecessary add-ons, by which I assume means ad-blockers. Have to confess I haven't noticed much difference in general - I'm just delighted the ads have vanished.

I don't understand how the software will 'learn' where to reposition the adverts if you click on them.

It knows where each ad is on the screen and it compiles the number of clicks for each position.

So what do you have to do - click on an in-post ad, or not click on it. Will clicking on an in-post ad enough times move it to the top or bottom of the page?

Only click banner ads. Anything in a bad place should be ignored.

That's what I thought. Makes sense, but I don't really understand the workings of the internet.

I can put up with banner ads (just!) - though I feel Big Brother is watching me when the banner ads are related to what I have recently bought on Amazon or eBay!

That must be because you're using a 'gas-powered' laptop! I get no such message, and neither will anyone else who's not using a computer that's fundamentally slow because of other issues

Martin's pretty much nailed it. The more folks click on the 'x' to close the ad box concerned, the more chance there is of that ad box being moved to somewhere else on the site.

Bear in mind though, that you'll be competing not just with other members here, some of whom may be interested in the ad content (especially the lingerie fetishists among us), but also hundreds, possibly thousands, of 'Guests', some of whom also may have clicked to view the ad content... And if they outnumber the 'x' clickers, closing the ads, then the ads will stay put...

On average, AoS gets 9000 page views per day, so the ad software will be influenced by the *collective* behaviour of the total number of visitors. Plus, in terms of the site being able to support itself, we WANT as many folks as possible to click on the ads, and view the content!
