These hold their own against a good few speakers that I’ve had .
Not sure why it says do not use without the grills ??

I had a pair of the larger Thiel 2.3 - happily for Stan Beresford they handily saw off a pair of Yammie 1000M imo, Stan bought the Yams from me!
The same sloped back cab, but with a concentric tweeter/mid and a passive bass radiator.
Very neutral and fast, with seriously taut bass. I kept them for quite a while.

Exactly that, Jerry. Those Thiels look very nice Andrew!
Holbo TT-Nag 110-Croft phono/Innuos Zen MK2/LinnenberG Telemann DAC-Preamp/LinnenberG Allegro monoblocs/Duevel Venus/LinnenberG Maestro SE-Senn. 660S DH Labs cabling
Croft Series 7 amps, WLM La Scala, Naim Uniti1, Naim Nait XS3, Naim ND5XS2, Guru Junior
Yes I’m loving the bass , in fact what’s not to like , really heavy though !!!

I recall the excellent Stereophile review of the 1.2 from when it was first published - it was that that put Thiel on my Want List, they sounded like my sort of speaker, and I wasn't disappointed when I finally got a pair of Thiels.
