Interesting to see how one of these compares to a UK-Legal Khozmo 'pot-in-a-box' of similar resistance value. Both are passive types I understand.

I have an LDR pre but with 8 year old boards. Am waiting for the new boards which the maker Chris says is is even better. The current one is very good. Detailed, transparent, uncolored and just lets the music flow.

    How are you attenuating things?

Suspect it's a subtle reference to the legal RoHS status (in the EU, and hence the UK) of devices using cadmium sulphide.

Think it depends on the PPM as stated below. Looks like its permitted to have less than 100ppm...

    .....

    RoHS Restricted Substances

RoHS specifies maximum levels for the following 10 restricted materials. The first six applied to the original RoHS while the last four were added under RoHS 3.

    Lead (Pb): < 1000 ppm
Lead is commonly used in the electrical and electronics industry in solder, lead-acid batteries, electronic components, cable sheathing and in the glass of cathode-ray tubes.

    Mercury (Hg): < 100 ppm
Mercury is widely used metals in the production of electrical and electronic appliances and is concentrated in batteries, switches and thermostats, and fluorescent lamps.

    Cadmium (Cd): < 100 ppm
Cadmium is used in electronic equipment, car batteries, and pigments.

Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI) < 1000 ppm
While some forms of chromium are non-toxic, Chromium VI can produce toxic effects.

    Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB): 1000 ppm
These are flame retardants found in electronic and electrical appliances. They have been found in indoor dust and air through evaporation from plastics.

Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE): < 1000 ppm
These are also flame retardants found in electronic and electrical appliances. Combustion of printed wiring boards release toxic emissions.

    Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): < 1000 ppm
These are used to soften PVC and vinyl insulation on electrical wires.

Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): < 1000 ppm
These are used to soften PVC and vinyl insulation on electrical wires.

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): < 1000 ppm
These are used to soften PVC and vinyl insulation on electrical wires.

Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): < 1000 ppm
These are used to soften PVC and vinyl insulation on electrical wires.

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I built mine P2P with a schematic posted on Diyaudio. I always thought that the LDR's would have a finite life, but many years on they are still going. The 100k pot is (I have always understood, but someone might correct me) a voltage control. The design as many others has variable resistors to give some control over channel imbalance given the nature of LDR's. However I use 2 additional pots that give much greater control over balance and work to very good effect.

Looks like a really tidy build. Looking forward to reading the feedback.

Can it oust Marcos Croft pre?
