Thanks Geoff, I still can't quite believe it to be honest but these things happen. I've had 56 years with no breaks so I've done ok I guess

It looks like I've done a right number on my toe as it's broken in three places but luckily the other toes are ok which they said is unusual for this type of break. It's the first thing I've ever broken

I've now got a really sexy massive boot thingy to wear for two weeks so no driving and have a follow up appointment in two weeks time... nightmare
    Time to drink whisky then!

I would counsel a weight bearing lateral and DP view, alongside a non-weight bearing oblique. I'm happy to assess your injuries if you can get some photo's of your X-rays. I see X-rays every day. Tomorrow I'm doing some consulting work looking over X-rays.

    Regards

    A

PS Don't panic, the foot is a pretty robust and well engineered piece of kit.
Thanks so much for your comments and offer Andrew

They didn't take a weight bearing X-ray, just one with foot flat and another with it on the side view

I did ask for a copy of my X-ray, as the breaks are pretty impressive looking!, but they said they can't supply them which I thought a bit strange but I didn't question it

Do you think it's worth going back and asking again for a copy Andrew ?

I'm also glad to hear the foot is pretty robust as well

Yes it's worth getting a copy, probably cost you a tenner. Call the access to medical records dept, all hospitals have one. I need to know which bone you've broken. I'd have considered getting it fixed with a "K" wire to maintain joint alignment. You may have some problems with the propulsive phase of gait when you get older, I'm just finishing off some consulting work on a medico-legal case which sounds very similar to what you've done. Non-weight bearing is ok, probably an air cast walker you've been dispensed .Keep me posted.

Am I the only one to see the irony in the fact that just as you get a pair of Maggies that can stand unsupported, you lose that ability yourself?
