Good advice, if you're on a budget the Knosti will do a very good job of getting your vinyl back into a playable state, then i'd suggest a Rega there's plenty on ebay so you get a lot for your money and there are also a whole load of easy to install upgrades you can do yourself without breaking the bank. if you do go down the Rega path then i'd suggest staying clear of the decks with the S shape RB200 arm as the anti skate will be fooked on it, i'd also recommend an Ortofon VMS 20 mk2 as a good cart match with any of the Rega arms.

If you can stretch your budget a bit (£250) then a Rega Planar 1, or stretch it a little further to one of these

The Audio Technica ATLP5, I’ve had mine for about 6 weeks and it’s excellent for the money, it has a good sounding phono stage built in and the AT95EX cartridge is a little gem, £289. It’s direct drive so no belt to contend with. It also has a USB output so you can digitise your vinyl. It’s a very classy looking and great sounding turntable so I’m sure your wife would approve

    Is this any good?

It's local to me so I can inspect it first & transport it myself.
I remember Richer Sounds did lots of Sherwood stuff years ago but no idea if they're any good?

On one hand it's only £50, on the other it's £50 towards something better.
